Join Discover Photography in the wild west of Portugal to capture one of the most photogenic coastlines in Europe. The west coast of Portugal from Lisbon to Lagos is lush with greenery and wild fauna amidst steep rugged cliff faces and sea stacks which face the Atlantic ocean.

The dramatic coastline is also home to quint fishing villages and old towns with pristine beaches nestled in between the protected nature reserves.

During this 6 night photography workshop we cover the 250km west coast starting from Lagos and continuing along the coast to Sines. Our final 2 nights of the trip will be based in Lisbon to capture the city at sunset and the blue hour.

We will have plenty of time out in the field at sunrise & sunset for the seascape locations, and we will concentrate on the blue hour & evenings in Lisbon to really explore the old towns with our cameras. We will seek out interesting nooks and crannies as well as the better-known and more iconic sites. Our aim will be to give you ample opportunity to really capture the history and beauty of this amazing country.

As well as having extended and flexible time in Portugal where we will work one-on-one with each guest to hone your seascape and urban photography skills, we will also provide demonstrations of advanced landscape and cityscape photography techniques, such as High Dynamic Range Imaging, image stacking and night photography.

We also encourage participants to bring a selection of their work for a review and critique; our professional tutor will discuss the art of urban photography composition, how to use the camera to create wow-factor images and how to approach photography with the eye of a pro.

Tutor

Your tutor for this workshop is Paulo Silva. Paulo is one of Portugal’s finest and most sought-after photographers. Paulo has a passion for landscape and nature photography, concentrating the majority of his work in Portugal’s Ria de Aveiro. Being a master at using his camera and working with colors and contrasts, he stays away from Photoshop, preferring to use filters when necessary to achieve the ideal balance of light and motion.

For him, the philosophy of “get it right in the camera” certainly applies. In 2015 Paulo created a course in IFP at the Portuguese Institute of Photography. His award-winning photographs have been published in national and international magazines and featured in gallery exhibits.
